Navigate the slopes like a Pro

We've put together some super tips to get through half-term without a glitch! A few insider tips on how to get around the Morzine, Les Gets and Nyon ski area. Follow some of these points and you can make the most of this amazing ski area!

The Morzine – Les Gets ski area provides the fastest access to skiing from the centre of Morzine in the new telecabine, which opened in 2013 doubling the uplift to 3000 skiers per hour. It opens at 08.45 for most of the season and at 08.30 in the February holiday period making it easy to reach the BASS Morzine meeting point for our usual start time of 09.15.

All our lessons start and finish at the top of Pleney (unless arranged otherwise) by our meeting sign, to your right, past the café terrace once you exit the telecabine.

BeginnersThe nursery learning area for beginners with a magic carpet and rope tow ski lifts, are reached by foot directly above the top of the bubble. Once mastered, the easy green and blue runs around the Belvedere and Nabor chairlifts including the Penguin Park present challenges and fun for adults and kids alike.

IntermediateThe next step is to explore piste B. Less confident skiers should turn right half way down and follow piste D towards the Mouilles chairlift where you have the option to return to the top or continue on piste D to join back up with piste B which, runs all the way into the village. This little detour avoids a sticky steep section in the middle of piste B and children will enjoy spotting the animals in the Zoo run (Chemin des Zous Zous) on the lower part of piste D.

Piste C offers confident blue runs skiers a scenic adventure over to the Atray ski lift which is often quite in the busy holiday periods and brings you back to the top of Pleney.

Turn right from the top of the telecabine, right again before reaching the Belvedere chairlift to cross underneath Chez Etienne, the café at the top of Pleney to pick up piste G which, is a lovely tree lined blue run but watch out for the occasional horse roaming the meadows at the bottom.

Once you reach the Fys chairlift there are options to return to the top, use the very easy blue Retour des Nants run back to the village or take the Pré Favre chairlift to ski into the Nyon Sector.

Here you will find the snowpark for adrenaline junkies or the Ravarettes and Lievre blue runs are real ‘feel good’ slopes.

Advanced

On a powder day, you won’t get into the freshies faster than the red pistes H and A which start as soon as you step out of the telecabine. Only the brave will want to tackle piste J and all three can either take you to the Atray and Mouilles Chairlifts or to the Stade run and piste H back into the village.

The Crusaz chairlift from the village has a convenient half way station where you can hop off and ski the Stade run to your hearts content.

Another option for advanced skiers is to head to the Chamossiere Sector which has a challenging red piste and a long leg burning black run as well as the Freeride Zone for off piste skiing. Safety equipment, (helmets, transceivers, shovels and probes) are required for off piste skiing. Off piste skiing always carries an amount of risk but the Freeride Zone is clearly marked as closed when conditions are considered too unsafe to enter.

Morzine and Beyond

The Belvedere chairlift provides access to Nyon ski area via the a blue ski run called Granges and Les Gets ski area via a blue ski run called Crocus but be aware that both have steep sections that will challenge less experienced skiers. From the end of the Granges run the Têtes and Troncs chairlifts take you up into the Nyon ski area as well as Chamossière ski areas.

This chairlift can get busy at peak times so you are encouraged to fill up all seats on every chair. An alternative option is to take the Chardons Bleu run which is an easy ski to the bottom of the Folliets du Golf chairlift where you can return to Pleney or ski onward into the Les Gets area.
