Mountain Adventures give you many benefits
In her book ‘Adventure Revolution: The Life-Changing Power of Choosing Challenge’, Belinda Kirk says, “Adventure is something to look forward to, a pleasure to look back on and mostly enjoyable at the time too.” She also says “adventure might just be the most natural way to make a change and tackle the many health issues that we face.”
The sport of alpine skiing, which mostly takes place in the mountains, provides the perfect route to adventure and the many benefits that can be derived thereof. It is so much more than just learning to ski. It provides a ‘challenge’ to learn something new and/or improve the skills you already have. As such it stretches you physically, mentally, and emotionally and opens up the possibility of finding flow state. It is often a social experience where you can find and develop friendships. Being in nature and appreciating where you are is good for your wellbeing. The sport itself provides exhilaration, it is exciting, and learning creates a sense of achievement which in turn builds your self esteem.
In a recent white paper titled, “Mountain Experiences are more than a Good Time” the author Ed Cambridge concludes that, “Mountain experiences offer far more than the fleeting thrill of adventure. The unique combination of physical exertion, cognitive restoration, and emotional regulation makes mountain activities a profound contributor to holistic well-being.” This white paper provides considerable evidence to support this view and the idea that ‘mountain adventures’ such as alpine skiing are much more than a fleeting thrill and really do provide many benefits.
